Cantex Continuing Care Network has named Nakis Urfi, JD, as Chief Compliance Officer.
Urfi brings a diverse background in Compliance & Ethics, AI-driven digital health, Medicare Advantage, and regulatory work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He has held leadership roles across multiple healthcare sectors, including serving as Senior Manager of Provider Relations, Regulatory Compliance, and Quality at Abbott in the Medical Device Heart Failure division, as well as Compliance Officer & ESG Leader at Babylon, a global digital health company specializing in AI, telehealth, and value-based care services. Earlier in his career, Urfi worked in various healthcare capacities, including contracting as a federal auditor and consultant to CMS, in addition to serving as a healthcare attorney, privacy officer, and chief compliance officer.
“The growing evolution of long-term care combined with Cantex’s numerous lines of business intrigued me,” Urfi says. “Our grandparents, parents, and indeed ourselves will one day be in this system, and it’s important we get it right, with quality and safety. The people and culture of Cantex also stood out to me, as well as the ability to bring ideas forward for consideration and execution. The industry is ripe for innovation, especially with the scaling of AI technology and solutions emerging from value-based arrangements. I look forward to growing and making things happen at Cantex.”
Urfi’s vision for compliance extends beyond meeting regulatory requirements. He emphasizes that a strong compliance culture is essential for building trust, enabling growth, and creating sustainable outcomes. “Without adequate compliance, companies may grow quickly in the short term, but will eventually falter due to regulatory issues, penalties, and lack of stakeholder trust,” he explains. “A strong compliance officer and program can not only identify and manage risk, but also streamline and improve operational processes, creating a more resilient business that prioritizes patient safety, workforce engagement, and long-term growth.”
Guided by the principle of taking calculated risks, Urfi believes that progress requires courage and innovation. “Sometimes all you need to do is take one risk that will completely change your career or your life,” he says. “Yes, I’m the Chief Compliance Officer, but that does not mean I will advocate for avoiding risk completely. It means we must take calculated and educated risks to push the needle in our work and ensure we continue advancing in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.”
With his depth of expertise and future-focused mindset, Urfi is well-positioned to lead Cantex’s compliance initiatives, supporting the company’s mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and innovative care across its continuum of services.
