Introduction

Cantex Continuing Care Network is hosting its first-ever Innovation Day, and for us, this is more than an event. It is a chance to listen to the people who know our company best — our employees — and give their ideas a place at the table.

Innovation Day reflects something we believe deeply at Cantex: great ideas can come from anywhere. When employees have the opportunity to share what they see, what they know, and what they imagine for the future, those ideas can lead to meaningful change in long-term care, where small improvements can make a real difference in the lives of residents, families, and care teams.

“This year’s event is especially exciting because it is the first time Cantex has done anything like this. That makes Innovation Day a true milestone for our company and a sign of what we value most: listening to employees, learning from operational experience, and improving how we support residents and care teams.”
- Armando Guzman, Chief Strategy Officer

What Is Innovation Day?

Innovation Day is a strategic initiative designed to surface transformative ideas from within Cantex, recognize employee ingenuity, and identify practical ways to improve resident care, workflows, and team communication.

In simple terms, it is an opportunity for employees to share ideas that could help improve how we work and how we care for others.

Why Innovation Day Matters for Cantex

"We are committed to providing the highest level of innovative, compassionate, and quality health care services to yield optimal outcomes and value for our patients, families, team members, and the communities we serve."
-Cantex Mission Statement

Innovation is especially important to us, as highlighted in our mission statement. We take pride in the steps we take towards delivering exceptional care. One example we are proud of is in 2025, at The Belmont at Twin Creeks, making Cantex the first skilled nursing provider in Texas to provide this service. Ideas like this are what we want to encourage our employees to bring to the table.

Cantex’s family-founded history continues to shape a collaborative workplace culture, which is why all current Cantex Continuing Care Network employees are eligible to submit ideas, regardless of title, department, or tenure. Innovation Day gives our team members a chance to share their ideas, help shape what comes next, and support the future of long-term care.

Why Employee-Led Innovation Matters in Long-Term Care

Long-term care is constantly evolving, and meaningful progress depends on people who care enough to think differently. According to a on employee-driven innovation in healthcare found that frontline staff often identify operational improvements leadership teams may overlook. Innovation is strongest when leadership creates a culture that listens to staff, supports new ideas, and recognizes the people behind them.

"Employee-driven innovation occurs when frontline actors in health organizations use their firsthand experience to spur new ideas to transform care.”
-Cadeddu, S. B. M., Dare, L. O., & Denis, J. L. Employee Driven Innovation in Health Organizations: Insights from a Scoping Review

That is why Innovation Day matters at Cantex. We see innovation as part of compassionate care. When we listen to our teams, we open the door to ideas that can improve the experience for residents, families, and coworkers alike.

How Employees Submit and Present Innovation Ideas at Cantex

Innovation Day also brings a little excitement to the floor.  Employees will present their ideas and compete for prizes that recognize their creativity and effort. These awards are one way we are celebrating the thought, care, and work that goes into every idea shared. We want our employees to know that their insights matter and that we are serious about rewarding innovation.

  • 1st place wins $10,000 and the title of Innovator of the Year.
  • 2nd place wins $5,000.
  • 3rd place wins $3,000.

During this inaugural Innovation Day by Cantex, employees submitted more than 90 ideas across categories including operations, patient care, employee experience, technology, compliance, quality, or business growth. Submissions came from team members across multiple departments, and ancillary services.

Submissions will be evaluated on creativity of the idea; practicality within Cantex’s environment; potential impact on patients, residents, or operations; quality and clarity of the submission; and diversity of ideas across departments and topics. Five finalists will ultimately be selected to do live pitch presentations in front of a panel of judges.

Conclusion

This first Innovation Day is more than a celebration of ideas. It is a clear sign that Cantex values the people behind the work and believes they can help shape new approaches to resident care and operational efficiency.

We hope Innovation Day becomes an annual tradition at Cantex, giving frontline employees an ongoing opportunity to share ideas that improve care, strengthen teamwork, and support better outcomes for residents and staff alike.
